A james Hollis refection

I came across these words of James Hollis when I was thinking about choices and fear , what keeps us stuck , what stops us speaking the truth.

' It's good to ask yourself 'Does this choice make me smaller or does it make me larger?

Does it enlarge one psychologically or is it diminishing me?

Its not about becoming important or achieved. Its more about the ego's capacity to expand, to incorporate more complexity, more paradox, in order to be a better servant of nature, of nature seeking fuller expression through us.

It matters most that our lives are not governed by fear.

Does fear dominate our lives? Does it make choices for us?

Have our fear management systems become shadow governments for us?

We may feel more risk, more vulnerable.

But only through risk do we live a larger life.

Only boldness can deliver us from fear.

If the risk is not taken, the meaning of life is violated.

Who are we serving when we serve fear and anxiety?

Things heat up when change is called for. We start feeling worse when the time comes to move to a new understanding, a new set of choices, a new framework for living our lives.
